filled cupcakes

Move over Twinkies, there's a new filled cake treat in town.

Meet raspberry lime cupcakes: lemon cupcakes (supposed to be yellow cake with added lime zest, but I had lemon cake mix on hand so I used it), topped with a pretty pink raspberry/whipped cream/cream cheese frosting. The best part of all is the yummy secret inside: creamy, sweet-tart lime filling. Yum!

Can you imagine the possibilities that filled cupcakes open up?

Hmmmm... yellow cake with vanilla pastry cream filling and chocolate frosting. Yes please....

Or maybe chocolate cake with whipped cream filling and chocolate ganache on top? Oh, mercy...

Oooohhh, strawberry short(cup)cake: Yellow cake with strawberry filling and whipped cream on top? YES!!!

How about spice cupcakes filled with vanilla pastry cream and topped with maple cinnamon whipped cream? Oh baby!

Do you have any great filled cupcake ideas/recipes? Please share!

P.S. While we're on the topic of cupcakes, have you seen this sweet little bit of stop-motion animation? We love it! (warning: there is a love scene between a cupcake and a butternut squash-- you may want to preview it before you let your kids watch.)

Ooh, looks yummy. I need to make a gluten-free & dairy-free version.

what a cute little video. but gosh, who knew a cupcake and a squash could be so racy? :) I'm afraid I may never see cupcake liners the same again! :)

Yum, those filled cupcakes sound so good. What a fun party food for a kid's b-day or a baby shower.

I LOVE this. I've just been a bit gushy about you over at my blog. But really. I meant it. You make/find/do/write good stuff.
