The boys love their new "book nook". We used their Christmas money from Grandma Jan and Grandpa Mark to get the floating shelves (IKEA) and beanbags (walmart.com). Eventually, I'd like to add a curtain "door" to the nook so it can be more of a hiding place/puppet theater-- I'm just waiting to find a cool vintage sheet to make it work.
Our "new" bookshelves make Lincoln so excited that he's just gotta dance! In case you missed the post on these, I made them out of a couple of old dressers. The workmanship on these suckers isn't that fabulous (but I love 'em!). They still need an appointment with a power sander-- again, something that I'll just have to come back to later. I'm also planning on placing a few colorful photos on either side of the shelves, all symetrical-like.
We found this couch for free on craigslist. No funky smells or stains, and it's in great solid condition. Since we got a such a great deal on the couch, we decided we could afford to shell out a little extra cash for the apple green slip cover (overstock.com). The color is even better in person. And those frames? They were a bunch of mismatches that I covered in red spray paint. We'll use them to display the boys' artwork, but I think they look cool empty too.
Oh, and you can't really tell in the pictures, but the walls are painted a nice, soft, dove gray. The color is Polar Star by Valspar.

Excellent job - it looks wonderful. It doesn't have a basement feel at all! Good colors.
I love it! It is so cute. I really like the couch. I can't wait to see it in person this summer or whenever we come out.
Steph, I love it! Your basement is a whole new place. My fav is the reading nook, though it's all quite fab.
Whoa, your basement looks great! I want a reading nook in my basement now.
